New email templates: The most important thing to know about template usage
- by admin
Template usage is the most important element of email marketing and is probably the most misunderstood aspect of email.
In this article, we’ll try to explain some of the most common questions about email templates.
What are templates?
We’ll talk more about the syntax of template files later on in the article.
You can use these files for your own email marketing campaigns.
But how do you know what template to use?
Google provides a tool that allows you to find a template by simply typing in a search term.
For example, if you type “email template” into Google’s search box, it will return results that include the word “email”.
If you type in “email newsletter template” and hit Enter, the tool will return the “email” template for that search term, along with links to the corresponding web pages.
To learn more about Google’s templates, you can read more about them in their docs.
How do you add a template?
If you want to add a new template, you’ll first need to click the “Edit” button on the top right of the template.
This opens the template editor.
You’ll then be able to add new templates by selecting them in the template list, or by dragging them into the editor.
If you drag an item onto the editor, the item will be highlighted in red.
If an item is already in the editor and you don’t want it to be, you just click on it and it will disappear.
What is a link?
Link refers to the same thing as template, but is used in a different way.
Instead of creating a link, you simply copy and paste the HTML of the link, and then click the link to the right of it.
The template will now be displayed as an HTML page.
In the template preview, you will see that the HTML is copied into a new HTML page, which Google will display as a template.
What you’ll see next is the text of the HTML.
Here’s an example of what you’ll be seeing:

What happens when I change the template?
You can modify the template at any time by clicking the “Change” button at the top of the page or by clicking “Edit”.
In the templates preview, the template will have changed.
How will I know that I’ve changed the template before I submit a new message?
The email template will automatically be updated if you change it after you submit a message.
But there’s one other way you can know when you’ve changed it: If you click “Save Changes” on the template, Google may give you a
